Travel to Lahore

There is an ancient Punjabi adage: "If you have not seen Lahore, you have not been born yet." And Lahore lives to this. One of the most famous travel destinations in Pakistan, Lahore is home to some of the most historic landmarks in Pakistan. Full of beautiful monuments, gardens, and palaces, the city is steeped in culture and atmosphere and attracts visitors in large number. Take a tour to Lahore, a magnificent city with a medieval charm with Pakistan Holiday.

No tour to Pakistan can be considered perfect without a visit to Lahore. A historic city, Lahore traces its origin during the Ramayana period. Legend has it that it was founded by the son of Rama, the hero of the Ramayana. However, it caught the attention when it gradated to a center of Islamic culture and learning in the 11th century AD. Capital of the Punjab province of Pakistan, it served as the capital of Mughal Emperor Akbar from 1584 to 1598.

Foremost among the Mughal's monuments in Lahore is the "Shahi Qila" or Royal Fort, dating back to 1566 A.D. Built by Akbar, this rectangular fort contains many beautiful buildings within its precincts like Moti Masjid (Pearl Mosque), Diwan-e-Am, Diwan-e-Khas, Khwabgah-e-Jahangir (Jahangir's Room of Dreams). The most beautiful palace in the Fort is the famous Sheesh Mahal or Palace of Mirrors decorated with small mirrors of diverse colors.

Another fine specimen of Mughal's architecture in Lahore is the Imperial or the Badshahi Mosque built by Emperor Aurangzeb in 1674 A.D. The second largest mosque in Pakistan this red sandstone mosque was built in a record time of two and-a-half years.

Built in 1634 by Wazir Khan, the governor of the Mughal province of Lahore during the rein of Shah Jahan, the Wazir Khan's Mosque is hailed as one of the most beautiful mosques in Pakistan. It is justifiably famous for tile work and arabesque paintings.
