Mountaineering in Northern
Pakistan
An adventure travel in Northern Pakistan stirs
your imagination and fills you with a sense of joie de vivre. The
northern region of Pakistan contains several snow-capped peaks along
the border with China and the Central Asian republics once part
of erstwhile Soviet Union. It is of no wonder that Mountaineering
is the key adventure activity in Northern Pakistan.
Mountaineering in Northern Pakistan comprises a
rendezvous with the stunning "Roof of the World", the
meeting point of world's four great mountain ranges viz., the Himalayas,
Karakoram, Hindukush and Pamir mountains.
Pakistan has the proud privilege of being home to five of the fourteen
highest peaks on this planet including K2 (8611 m.), the second
highest peak in the world and Nanga Parbat (8125 m.), also known
as the "Killer Mountain".
The Indus River meandering through the mountainous region of northern
Pakistan is cradle of many civilizations. Along the basin of this
mighty river the descendents of these civilizations such as Baltis,
Hunzakuts and Pushtuns are still untouched by modern world. It a
pleasure for the senses to see them practicing their centuries old
ways of life.
All the peaks for mountaineering in Northern Pakistan
have been designated as open zone or restricted zone. You are required
to acquire permits for climbing peaks, which are issued by the Ministry
of Tourism Pakistan. |
